Hot out of the furnace

Thank you for visiting my new online gallery. I am very excited to add some new collections to my portfolio. In addition to my glass jewellery, I am featuring three new collections on the site - glass bowls, illustrations and shellwork. These crafts reflect the breadth of my interests in making not just jewellery, but decorative items for interiors, too. In addition to jewellery making, I have always been fascinated with glass, its beautiful properties and colours. I began my studies in glass making at Central Saint Martins, and glass is the material that has gone on to influence and shape my jewellery collection. I have branched out from making small, wearable pieces to larger bowls and ornaments, exploring form and colour combinations in addition to painting onto glass. The paint is made from powdered glass suspended in a binder, and so patterns can be painted onto the glass and then fired permanently to its surface.

Illustration is at the heart of every designer's initial ideas and an essential part of the design process. I love drawing and painting as much as I love to create three dimensional designs. So I am very pleased to feature my hand-drawn and painted illustrations here as part of the overall collection. The sea and marine life being my main inspiration for my designs, I could not help but fall for the wonderful craft of shellwork - sailor's valentines, shell-encrusted, domed floral displays and pretty boxes all intricately decorated with shells. Not to mention shell grottoes with whole chambers adorned with shells, tufa rocks, corals and depictions of Poseidon. It is a lengthy process selecting, arranging and attaching the miniature shells to ornaments but the finished pieces are so decorative and out of the ordinary.  I hope you enjoy looking around the new site.
